We are looking for a Senior Accountant to support Airship’s growing portfolio by becoming a key member of the accounting team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the preparation and review of key financial data underlying Airship’s financial statements. This includes leading Airship’s global payroll accounting, analyzing accounting activity for multiple general ledger accounts, driving process improvements, and supporting key audit and financial reporting processes.

The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated and eager to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity for growth and leadership within this position. They are natural problem solvers, willing to adapt to a changing environment, and desire to drive process improvement to increase efficiency.

Examples of Work Performed

General Ledger

  • Manage the general ledger, including preparation and review of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Facilitate the monthly close process and lead the team to a shorter close schedule
  • Lead monthly reporting and variance analysis activities through the use of analytics to identify trends and report findings to the Controller, FP&A team, and other senior leadership

Technical Accounting

  • Support the software capitalization process by collaborating with engineering and product teams to identify a complete list of development projects applicable to ASC 350 and subsequently posting, tracking, and maintaining their schedules
  • Identify new leases under ASC 842 and calculate ROU asset and lease liability schedules
  • Record stock-based compensation on a monthly basis
  • Assist with technical accounting, as needed

Payroll Management

  • Own and manage the global payroll accounting process, including managing the US payroll processing team for bi-weekly payroll for US exempt, non-exempt, and temporary employees
  • Perform all payroll accounting functions, including posting journal entries, reconciling payroll general ledger accounts, and investigating account fluctuations
  • Assist the payroll processing team in managing compliance with state and local reporting, filing requirements, and audits

Audits and Support

  • Support financial and tax audits, including preparation of audit schedules
  • Prepare the annual financial statements
  • Lead and/or contribute to ad-hoc projects as needed
  • Cross-train with other team members
  • Opportunity to present process improvements and technical accounting matters to senior management
  • Future opportunities to grow skills in valuations, compliance, team leadership, and more

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in accounting, software industry is a plus, Big 4 experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of the general ledger
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Understanding of payroll accounting preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems, and previous experience with NetSuite preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • CPA preferred

Work Location & Travel Requirements

Airship’s ‘Digital First’ approach to work means that for the majority of our roles, work can be performed remotely, either some or most of the time. Airship believes that flexible work contributes to a more productive and more equitable work environment, and that Airshippers are able to collaborate, innovate, and support one another across different locations and timezones.

Some roles may require that employees perform their work from a specific location to support business activities, and/or be within proximity to an Airship office location or customer or partner locations, while other roles can be performed 100% remotely.

This position is fully remote and may require up to 10% travel based on business needs or as requested by your manager.

Compensation

Airship’s compensation is determined by a variety of factors including market data, business needs, and geography. Base pay is part of your total compensation package and is dependent on multiple factors, including: relevant skills, work experience, business priorities, market demands, and location.

The starting base pay range for this position is: $82,800 - $93,6000 USD per year. Some roles may also be eligible for commission, bonus, or other performance incentives. Airship believes that employees should have the opportunity to benefit from value-creation, so equity is also offered with this role. In addition, Airship offers a robust benefits package as part of our Total Rewards approach to compensation.
