What We Do

Navigation serves customers with use cases ranging from turn-by-turn navigation in electric vehicles to delivery route planning for fleets of thousands of trucks. Our services are often at the heart of the operations of our customers’ businesses, powering experiences and operations for customers like BMW, Toyota, Rivian, Instacart, and Strava.

The Navigation team develops and operates web services powering virtually all of Mapbox’s strategic navigation initiatives in consumer, automotive, and logistics. This is a highly multidisciplinary team, with work spanning distributed systems on AWS to geospatial localization, traffic telemetry, and mapping.

What You'll Do

We are seeking a technical Engineering Manager who is driven by the idea of enhancing and developing core and essential components of current and future implementations of the navigation ecosystem here at Mapbox.

In this role, you will:

  • Mentor, support and inspire engineers on the team, helping them grow in their career.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, inclusion and data-driven decisions.

  • Drive company, product, and team objectives, carrying the team along in the decision-making.

  • Work with Product and Engineering Teams to define the roadmap for the Navigation products.

  • Collaborate on what our customers need, and develop a strategic plan to address them, for example via RFCs or FAQs.

  • Contribute to business and product planning.

  • 3+ years of leadership: You have managed technical teams leading to product execution and business outcome while growing and developing a team of engineering talent.

  • Technical Expertise: You have experience building web services in AWS.

  • Operational excellence: You drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement in your organization and personally embody a passion for monitoring, metrics, triage, resolving customer issues and iterative improvement.

  • Ownership & execution: Own the vision, lead the strategy and guide the team to execute towards building the future of our Navigation

  • Customer focus. You care deeply about your customers and their problems, and you work tirelessly to innovate on their behalf.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in automotive or directions software.

  • Experience with Rust or C++
