Summary:
Molekule develops innovative air purification and air quality solutions utilizing proprietary photocatalytic technology. Our products are designed to improve indoor air quality by addressing airborne pollutants, including particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other contaminants. As part of our engineering team, interns work directly on the evaluation, testing, and improvement of products that impact the environments where people live and work.
Molekule is seeking a motivated Product Development and Engineering Test Intern to support the Hardware Engineering and Development team. This is a hands-on role focused on executing engineering test procedures, collecting and analyzing product performance data, troubleshooting hardware systems, and contributing to product improvement efforts.
The ideal candidate is a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field who enjoys working in a laboratory environment interacting with hardware and software, is comfortable operating independently, and takes ownership of assigned projects. While test plans and objectives will be provided, the intern will be expected to manage day-to-day execution, communicate progress, and proactively resolve challenges as they arise. This is an opportunity to add value to an active product development cycle.
This position reports to the Engineering Team and provides exposure to real-world product testing, engineering analysis, and product development processes.
What You Will Own:
- Execute engineering test procedures for air purification products and related systems.
- Perform airflow and performance testing on air purification products.
- Conduct environmental chamber testing involving volatile organic compounds (VOCs), smoke, particulate matter, and typical household pollutants.
- Collect, organize, document, and analyze sensor data from external and onboard product sensors.
- Utilize software tools to process and organize data to enable the development of insights.
- Assemble and disassemble test fixtures, laboratory setups, and product hardware under engineering guidance.
- Product reliability testing – develop test plans, gather required materials, execute test plans, document findings, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Assist with product teardown, inspection, and evaluation activities.
- Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and electrical issues through structured testing and analysis.
- Record test results and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
- Analyze test data using engineering tools and spreadsheets.
- Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations of test findings.
- Participate in engineering reviews and product improvement discussions.
- Maintain laboratory organization and follow all safety procedures related to testing
What You Will Bring:
- Rising junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and execute testing with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency with Python and comfortable with picking up emerging software tools and interacting with microcontrollers.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Lakeland, Florida for the duration of the internship.
Nice to Have:
- Previous laboratory, engineering project, or hands-on technical experience.
- Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks or CREO.
- Experience working with sensors, instrumentation, or test equipment and subsequent analysis of these collected parameters.
- Familiarity with data analysis and technical reporting.
- Experience assembling, modifying, programming, troubleshooting, and recording data from electromechanical systems or microcontrollers, such as Arduino, Espressif, or Raspberry Pi families.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical demands of this position include, but are not limited to sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, twisting, reaching, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, dexterity of utilizing hands and fingers, ability to work in a manufacturing environment, ability to work onsite, seeing (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception), hearing and speaking.
