About the Job

The Data Platform team maintains and evolves Sovrn’s data platform and data processing, focusing on architecture, transformation, availability, governance, and ensuring critical insights are accessible to internal leaders. We serve as experts on ETL, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools, driving collaboration across engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and product managers. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to enhance data architecture, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the integrity and efficiency of our data ecosystem. The ideal candidate is passionate about building data infrastructure, has strong problem-solving skills, and can manage data pipelines (ELT).

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Participating in architecture design, table definition, metric consistency, data modeling, and implementation of big data platform and analytics applications.
  • Work with the latest big data and analytics technologies and become familiar with standard big data design strategies.
  • Provide governance of business-critical product data sets within Sovrn’s data warehouse and ensure their readiness for data analysts and other internal business users.
  • Implement components and configurations required for data pipeline implementation in AWS and Databricks.
  • Implement data pipeline metrics to monitor performance, accuracy, and availability.
  • Research, implement, and evolve methods to process our data.
  • Optimize data processing and data access to business intelligence tools.
  • Work across the organization to enable business growth and development through data services and data models.
  • Troubleshoot stability issues and work on improvements.
  • Work with the security team to implement and maintain robust data security measures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data governance and privacy regulations.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A solid understanding of big data processing environments such as Spark and Databricks.
  • Demonstrated experience with data processing using Spark and Python in a production environment.
  • Proven experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow and MWAA.
  • Experience working in the Cloud Computing ecosystem. We use AWS, but we are open to GCP, Azure, etc.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and AWS CloudFormation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, big data tables, and DynamoDB.
  • Able to triage, debug, and fix simple issues.
  • Possesses a general understanding of the product domain and architecture.
  • A strong individual contributor focused on delivering features.
  • Learning to apply industry best practices, design principles, and design patterns.
  • Executes on defined features of simple scope to achieve team goals and commitments.
  • Knows and follows team conventions and precedent for solving recurring problems.
  • Demonstrates an emerging aptitude for writing clean, testable, readable, maintainable, quality code.
  • Experiments and takes calculated risks with guidance from more experienced engineers.
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate application code.
  • Adds context and clarity to their work through documentation, as well as keeping existing documentation up-to-date.
  • A creative yet analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Quick to willingly jump in and help others when they are struggling with issues.

Location: Location: Boulder, Colorado - Candidates must currently live in, or are willing to relocate to the Boulder/Denver area. Sovrn’s hybrid schedule includes onsite in our Boulder office. #LI-Hybrid

Compensation and Benefits

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the approximate compensation range for this role in Boulder, Colorado is $110,000 to $130,000, including base salary and any related bonuses or commissions. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills and certifications.
