Alation is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join our team in Chennai, India.
As part of Alation’s Documentation team, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive documentation that meets the Software Industry standards and ensures that our customers can always find the information they need. We are looking for a technical writer who is motivated and passionate about transforming complex technical concepts into user-friendly, clear instructions setting up Alation users for success.
What you’ll do:
Gain a deep understanding of the product in order to translate complex product information into engaging content meeting the needs of the target audience
Author various types of technical documentation, with a primary focus on developing and updating connector documentation
Research, draft, write, and edit new and existing content, working closely with various teamsIndependently gather information from subject matter experts
Perform peer documentation reviewsWork closely with SMEs to ensure documentation quality, including technical deep-dives and testing the documentation
Collaborate with teams across the company to create and maintain a continuous information flow and a successful product information strategy
Contribute to fast-paced product releases, including monthly and weekly releasesMaintain existing information architecture and repositories
You should have:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Sciences or Science)
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in the English language
3-5 years of experience in the software industry creating documentation for software products
A clear understanding of style guides and their applicationA clear understanding of target audiences and their defining role for technical documentation
Experience with GitHub and/or MadCap FlareA solid understanding of information architecture as applied to technical documentationFamiliarity with data and big data concepts, data analysis, and BI solutions (for example, Tableau)A good understanding of relational and other types of databases
Ability to work independently and on a team
A big plus if you have experience in the following areas:
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environmentAbility to work on doc tasks of moderate to wide scope and moderate to high complexity
Strong analytical skillsCreativity and curiosity, motivation to get to the root cause, and attention to detail
Experience with the “docs-as-code” concept, reStructuredText, and Sphinx is a plusFamiliarity and experience with the UX area of software products is a plus
