LOCATIONInfleqtion has 6 office locations, operating out of Austin, TX; Boulder/Louisville, CO; Madison, WI; Chicago, IL; Oxford, UK; and Melbourne, AU. This position is a full-time, hybrid position which will be located in our Oxford, United Kingdom office.
Job Summary
Infleqtion UK is looking for an Opto-Mechanical Engineer with a passion for working with a multi-disciplinary team to bring state-of-the art quantum technologies outside the laboratory and into the real-world. You will use your skills to contribute to the design, verification, and implementation of opto-mechanical systems and subsystems for Infleqtion’s quantum products. You will have strong skills and relevant experience working within a team of engineers and scientists designing components and systems in a fast-paced environment.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. - Mechanical and opto-mechanical design, modelling, test, and verification, including packaging and structural design, thermal modelling, vibration isolation, and integrated photonics
- Translating product requirements into mechanical architecture and designs
- Execution of modelling, simulation, and analytical efforts required to enable product performance
- Integration of mechanical subsystems with electrical, optical, and other subsystems
- Design for manufacturability, test, and sustainment; execution of a digital thread from design through manufacturing through support
- Identifying and engaging key suppliers and developing mechanical bills of materials
- Fabrication and test of protoypes and subsystems.
- Developing manufacturing and assembly processes
- Following Infleqtion’s Product Lifecycle Process and supporting Phase gate reviews, critical design reviews, and executive updates
- Supporting development of risk management plans and risk resolution and supporting reliability analysis and continuous improvement
- Coaching and mentoring junior engineers
- Engineering degree with opto mechanical focus
- Experience with hardware product development, new product introduction, and Product Life Cycle processes, preferably with mid to high volume commercial products
- Several years of relevant and progressive experience in a similar role
- Proven experience in developing and integrating precision designed components into working devices and products
- Working knowledge of optical components, such as mirrors, lenses, and polarisation-dependent optics
- Excellent understanding of best practices for mounting optical components
- Experience supporting FMEAs and following best practice product development processes
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and processes, including GD&T
- Experience using CAD software
- Understanding of simulation and analysis (FEA, CFD) such as ANSYS, COMSOL
- Experience with optics and optical component modelling, such as ray tracing and stray light analysis
- Experience in accelerated life testing
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, specifically CNC machining
- Experience of environmental testing and ability to interpret test data
- Ability to communicate to ideas clearly and succinctly
- Entrepreneurial drive, intellectual agility and personal eagerness to develop with the needs of the business
- Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment
- Ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment
- Experience with integrated photonics and electro-mechanical integration
- Experience using SolidWorks
- Experience with PLM systems, such as SolidWorks PDM and technical document management.
