This position is a full-time, hybrid position which will be located in our Oxford, England office. Job Summary Infleqtion UK is looking for an experimental physicist with a PhD in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics and a passion for bringing quantum technologies outside the laboratory and into the real-world. You will use your analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of atom-based quantum technologies, such as inertial navigation systems and radiofrequency sensors. You will have strong practical skills and use your experimental experience to complete tasks requiring a high attention to detail. Job ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. • Participate in and/or lead research and development efforts to produce field-deployable quantum devices
• Translate product requirements into atomic system designs
• Execute modelling, simulation, and analytical calculations to design systems required to meet product performance
• Integrate complex opto-mechanical systems, electronics, and software into quantum devices
• Design and execute testing and verification plans
• Identify materials and components to meet project requirements
• Document project progress and identify, track and resolve any project issues
• Contribute to external reports and publications; author/co-author papers, proposals, presentations and reports; give invited talks; attend project workshops and conferences

Requirements

• PhD in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics
• Experience working with laser systems; optical design, alignment, and control
• Proven track record of integrating complex hardware and software into systems
• Working knowledge of control systems and signal processing
• Proficiency in a programming language (e.g. Python)
• Entrepreneurial drive, intellectual agility and personal eagerness to develop with the needs of the business
• Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment
• Ability to work and communicate with all levels of an organization; professional-level communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills
• Ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment
• Resourceful problem-solver who collaboratively identifies effective paths forward

Desirable Skills And Knowledge

• Laser-cooled atoms
• Ultra-high vacuum processing and usage techniques
• Experience working on stabilised laser systems using, e.g., optical cavities or atomic spectroscopy
• 3D CAD packages (e.g. Solidworks) and circuit design software (e.g. Altium)
• Electronic circuit design
• Project Management
