We are currently searching for a Head of Research & Development - UK. LocationInfleqtion has 6 office locations, operating out of Austin, TX; Boulder/Louisville, CO; Madison, WI; Chicago, IL; Oxford, UK; and Melbourne, AU. This position is a full-time, hybrid position which will be located in our Oxford, United Kingdom office. Position SummaryThe Head of Research and Development will be responsible for Infleqtion UK’s ‘ColdquantaLabs’ R&D team which spans fundamental quantum technology research through major multi-million-pound programmes. The role encompasses the coordination and management of the R&D team’s resources to deliver high quality research and meet the milestones and deliverables of all research contracts. The role will work closely with ColdquantaLabs, Commercial leadership, and the Director of Business Development – UK, to win new R&D opportunities. This role will play a vital part in shaping our technologies and research into government mission needs, objectives, and systems. Key ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee and lead the UK ColdquantaLabs R&D group and provide reporting into ColdquantaLabs global leadership
  • Coordinate UK ColdquantaLabs projects, and align these with company strategic directions
  • Directly manage portfolio leads, and coordinate the management of all UK home-officed ColdquantaLabs staff
  • Report staffing needs and work with ColdquantaLabs leadership to ensure ColdquantaLabs resources are matrixed to the benefit of our global organization
  • Support the UK business development activities in both the public and private sectors to scale Infleqtion into a global quantum product company
  • Maintain extensive and deep relationships with, and understanding of, quantum researchers, major Defense Primes and government customers, positioning Infleqtion as a trusted partner for quantum technologies and programmes
  • Develop a robust understanding of company strategy, technologies, products and research, and pursue major programme opportunities that connect the company’s capabilities with programme opportunities to accelerate long-term revenue growth
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • PhD or equivalent level qualification in physics
  • Experience in leading an R&D team doing cutting-edge research
  • Deep understanding of, and experience with, quantum technologies, and government programmes
  • Proven track record of delivering on contract-based research & development, desirably in quantum technology
  • Proven track record of winning government R&D contracts, desirably in quantum technology
  • Security clearance desirable; ability to obtain a security clearance is required
  • Skilled communicator, experienced in establishing and maintaining external customer relationships
  • Skilled and empathetic manager, experienced in managing and resolving internal conflicts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively share information with senior technical and non-technical staff
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new and complex topics quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to thrive and produce results in a fluid, dynamic, and fast-paced environment
  • Passion for solving hard problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment
  • Ability to travel domestically; within the EU; and internationally up to 20%
