We are recruiting for a Laser / Frequency Comb Scientist.
LOCATION
Infleqtion has 6 office locations, operating out of Austin, TX; Boulder/Louisville, CO; Madison, WI; Chicago, IL; Oxford, UK; and Melbourne, AU. This position is a full-time, hybrid position which will be located in our Oxford, United Kingdom office.
POSITION SUMMARY
Infleqtion UK is looking for a university or PhD graduate with a passion for experimental physics to develop fibre optical frequency combs which form a critical subsystem of our optical atomic clock products. You will use your analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of optical frequency combs and measurement facilities. You will have strong practical skills and use your experimental experience to complete tasks requiring a high attention to detail.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design, construction, and testing of fibre frequency combs
- Optimisation and validation of frequency comb performance
- Work collaboratively with team members and external partners
- Documentation of designs, progress, and results
- Development of control systems for optical frequency combs and laser stabilisation
- Maintenance of a safe working environment
- Contribute to external reports and publications; author/co-author papers, proposals, presentations and reports; give invited talks; attend project meetings, workshops and conferences.
- Generate intellectual property including patents, trade secrets, and publications
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent in Physics, Photonics, Electronic Engineering, or a related field
- Experience optimising and testing pulsed laser systems
- Excellent working knowledge of femtosecond pulsed lasers
- Working knowledge of electronic control systems and RF electronics
- Proficiency in scientific computing and data analysis in, e.g., python
- Excellent attention to detail, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Entrepreneurial drive, intellectual agility and personal eagerness to develop with the needs of the business
- Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment
- Ability to work and communicate with all levels of an organization; professional-level communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment
- Resourceful problem-solver who collaboratively identifies effective paths forward
Desirable skills and knowledge
- Experience designing, constructing and testing optical frequency combs
- Familiarity with optical atomic clocks
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Solidworks).
- Electronic circuit design
- Product development experience
