Location

This position is a full-time, hybrid position and is based in our Oxford, United Kingdom office.

Job Summary

Infleqtion UK is looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer with a passion for working with a multi-disciplinary team to bring state-of-the art quantum technologies outside the laboratory and into the real-world. You will use your analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of atom-based quantum technologies, such as inertial navigation systems, radiofrequency sensors, and atomic clocks.

Job Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the productisation of atom-based quantum technologies, such as atomic clocks and inertial sensing systems
  • Develop electronics and microsystems solutions required to control atomic clock subsystems, including laser and frequency comb drivers, amplifiers, various types of photodetectors (such as photomultipliers and photodiodes), thermal sensors, heaters, and coolers, and RF upconversion/downcoversion
  • Design, develop, and program circuits that enable I/O control between subsystems and enable power distribution to across subsystems
  • Measure and resolve sources of noise
  • Select and/or develop and implement control algorithms in firmware as necessary
  • Program firmware as necessary
  • Development of BOMs, supplier qualification, and materials sourcing
  • Product development using the Infleqtion Product Lifecycle
  • Create, document, and maintain control electronics design and architecture
  • Develop software to interface with microcontroller- and FPGA-based peripherals in Python or C
  • Prototype, test, and validate software and hardware stack using precision test and measurement equipment
  • Conduct critical design reviews based upon targeted product specifications
  • Manage technical priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science or related field
  • Proficient with Python and compiled languages, such as Rust or C
  • Proficient with firmware programming
  • Experience with hardware product development, new product introduction, and Product Life Cycle processes, preferably with mid to high volume commercial products
  • Experience with electrical test, verification, and validation of products and subsystems
  • Experience with software implementation and delivery
  • Proficient with circuit design software (e.g., Altium)
  • Proficient with circuit simulation and test
  • Understanding of standardised bus systems and protocols, such as SCPI, SPI, I2C
  • Experience of developing reliable, high performance, and documented software using standard software engineering disciplines: testing, error-handling, readability, documentation, general code health
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to breakdown complex multicomponent systems and into manageable subsystems
  • Proficient working in both Linux and Windows environments
  • Keen to work on cutting edge products where the software you produce is time and mission critical
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Skills Or Knowledge

  • Familiarity with opto-mechanical, electro-optic, atomic and/or quantum technology systems
