Infleqtion UK is looking for an experimental physicist with a PhD in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics and a passion for bringing quantum technologies outside the laboratory and into the real-world. You will use your analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of atom interferometry systems for next-generation inertial navigation systems. You will have strong practical skills and use your experimental experience to complete tasks requiring a high attention to detail. This role is based at our facility in Oxford, UK.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in and/or lead research and development efforts to produce field-deployable quantum inertial sensors.
  • Translate product requirements into atomic system designs.
  • Execute modelling, simulation, and analytical calculations to design systems required to meet product performance.
  • Integrate complex opto-mechanical systems, electronics, and software into quantum devices.
  • Design and execute testing and verification plans.
  • Identify materials and components to meet project requirements.
  • Document project progress and identify, track and resolve any project issues.
  • Contribute to external reports and publications; author/co-author papers, proposals, presentations and reports; give invited talks; attend project workshops and conferences.

Requirements

  • PhD in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics.
  • Experience working with laser systems; optical design, alignment, and control.
  • Proven track record of integrating complex hardware and software into systems.
  • Working knowledge of control systems and signal processing.
  • Proficiency in a programming language (e.g. Python).
  • Entrepreneurial drive, intellectual agility and personal eagerness to develop with the needs of the business.
  • Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate with all levels of an organization; professional-level communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, team-oriented, and matrixed environment.
  • Resourceful problem-solver who collaboratively identifies effective paths forward.

Desirable Skills And Knowledge

  • Atom Interferometry
  • Experience working on stabilised laser systems using, e.g., optical cavities or atomic spectroscopy.
  • 3D CAD packages (e.g. Solidworks) and circuit design software (e.g. Altium)
