Location

This position is a full-time position and is based in our Oxford, England office.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Infleqtion UK is in search of a highly motivated FPGA Engineer with a keen interest in joining a diverse, interdisciplinary team dedicated to transcending the boundaries of quantum technology, bringing it from the confines of the laboratory into practical real-world applications. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will employ your analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the design, implementation, and operation of atom-based quantum technologies, including inertial navigation systems, radiofrequency sensors, and atomic clocks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Collaborate seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team to orchestrate the development of atom-based quantum technologies, encompassing atomic clocks and inertial sensing systems
  • Engineer electronic and microsystem solutions tailored for controlling subsystems, such as laser and frequency comb drivers, amplifiers, various photodetectors (e.g., photomultipliers and photodiodes), thermal sensors, heaters, coolers, and RF upconversion/downconversion
  • Implement digital transmit/receive (TX/RX) and real-time digital signal processing (DSP) functions on an FPGA
  • Create high speed interfaces from FPGA to peripherals such as ADC, DAC, DDA, PLL and other high-speed devices
  • Execute high-speed DSP in the loop feedback control systems on an FPGA
  • Collaborate closely with electronics and systems engineers to design and realize FPGA-based peripherals
  • Employ precision test and measurement equipment to characterize and test systems
  • Conduct critical design reviews based on specific product specifications
  • Create, document, and maintain electronic designs and architectural blueprints
  • Effectively manage technical priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver on project objectives

Requirements

  • Significant experience working in engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in implementing DSP algorithms, digital transceivers, and control loops on FPGAs using VHDL or Verilog
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of digital and RF hardware, including its limitations and its impact on system performance
  • Competence in interfacing FPGAs with system memory and peripherals
  • Proficiency in interfacing with embedded devices through standard communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and others
  • Experience in hardware product development, new product introduction, and familiarity with Product Life Cycle processes
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test, verification, and validation of products and subsystems.

Desirable Skills Or Knowledge

  • Experience with embedded systems programming in C/C++ or Rust
  • Experience of developing with FPGA SoC/SoM devices
