Location
This position is a full-time hybrid position and is based in our Oxford, England office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical and opto-mechanical design, modeling, testing, and verification, with focus on packaging, thermal management, and vibration isolation
- Transform product requirements into mechanical architecture and designs
- Conduct comprehensive modeling and simulation activities to enhance product performance
- Collaborate in the integration of mechanical systems with electrical, optical, and other subsystems
- Identify and engage key suppliers, develop bills of materials
- Design for fabrication, and test prototypes and subsystems
- Uphold Infleqtion’s Product Lifecycle Process, participate in key reviews and updates
- Supporting development of risk management plans and risk resolution and supporting reliability analysis and continuous improvement
- Coaching and mentoring junior engineers
Essential Skills:
- An Engineering/Physics degree (or equivalent, or extensive experience working in an opto-mechanical role)
- Experience in hardware product development
- Proficient in the use of 3D CAD to design mechanical devices and an understanding of design lifecycle management
- An understanding of laser physics and experience with optical path modeling
- An in-depth knowledge of optical components and mounting techniques and practical experience in laser alignment
- A record of accomplishment of developing and integrating precision components into functional devices
- Proven expertise in conducting FMEAs and adhering to best practice product development processes
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly CNC machining, and experience with environmental testing
- Effective communication skills and the ability to articulate ideas
- A problem-solving mindset and the agility to adapt to the evolving needs of the business
- Minimum 3 days per week on-site in Oxfordshire office (or as required)
- Experience with integrated photonics and electro-mechanical integration
- Experience with safe working practices for lasers and familiarity with the relevant engineering standards
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and PLM systems like SolidWorks PDM
- Some familiarity/interest in quantum physics/computing
- Experience supporting FMEAs and following best practice product development processes
- Solid understanding of engineering principles and processes, including GD&T
- Experience of simulation and analysis (FEA, CFD) such as Zemax, ANSYS, COMSOL
